Les Bell was born in Harrisburg, December 14, 1901, and died in Hershey, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, December 26, 1985. He is buried at the East Harrisburg Cemetery, Harrisburg.
Bell was was a major league baseball infielder (third base and shortstop) for 9 years from 1923 through 1931. He began his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, National League (1923-1927), also played for the Boston Braves, National League (1928-1929), and ended his career with the Chicago Cubs, National League (1930-1931). In 1926 he helped the St. Louis Cardinals defeat the New York Yankees in the World Series. With 20 plate appearances over 7 games, he hit one home run and drove in 6 runs with a batting average of .246.
After his major league playing days were over, he remained a fixture in area baseball, going on to manage the Harrisburg Senators during the war years.
