LOIS GREEN SCHOFFSTALL
Lois Green Schoffstall, 91, of Gratz died October 25, 2022, at Stonebridge Health and Rehab Center, Duncannon. She was born in Barry Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, August 21, 1931, a daughter of the late Lula Green and Harvey Green.
Lois graduated from Hegins Township High School in 1949. She was a talented homemaker who through the years always had a project – sewing, crocheting, painting, gardening and especially cooking. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking for large gatherings of friends and family.
However, Lois will best be remembered for her love of researching local history and family genealogies. She authored The Green Family History and The Shaffer-Miller Family History. As an active life member of the Gratz Historical Society, she served as one of its early presidents and spent many years afterward as the museum curator. In a time before historical and genealogical records were available on-line, she organized research trips to state and county offices, libraries and archives. And, she spent years of her life in coordinating the research and writing of three publications, A Comprehensive History of Gratz and two volumes of The History of Lykens Township as well as six volumes of “Gratz Memories” books.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Millersburg.
Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Charles A. Schoffstall, three daughters, Debra Henshaw (Tom Henshaw), Lynne Baer (Jonathan Baer) and Lori Norris (David Norris); a sister Eloise Winfree; 8 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Harvey Green Jr.
Interment was in the Gratz Union Cemetery.
