Valley View Man Loses Life in Crash of Army Plane
Sergeant Louis J. Hepler, 22, was one of nine soldiers killed in the crash of an Army bombing plane, near Barksdale Field, Alabama, Monday.
According to advices, the pilot attempted to return to Barksdale Field when the plane was caught in a thunderstorm. The accident occurred when the plane crashed into a tree.
Sergeant Hepler was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hepler of Valley View, and was a graduate of the Hegins Township High School. He enlisted in the Army in March 1941.
Funeral services will be held from the parents’ home, at 10 o’clock Saturday morning. Rev. E. T. Sheets, pastor of the Valley View Church of God will officiate and interment will be in the Hegins Cemetery.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Paul Hepler, of Marysville; his grandmother, Mrs. Emma Bixler; and his grandfather, Andrew Hepler of Hegins Township.
