From the Lykens Standard, December 7, 1906:
THIS TIME IT’S TURKEY
A farmer named Smeltz started from his home near Loyalton early Wednesday morning with a load of produce for this place [Lykens]. among which were several turkeys in a box at the back of the wagon. When he arrived at the Big Run Hotel at daybreak he stopped to water his horses and was surprised to find that the box had been opened somewhere along the road, the largest turkey, weighing 18 pounds, stolen, and the box locked again.
