An undated (probably about 1906) photograph of the Etzweiler-Helt General Store on the corner of the Crossroads (Oakdale Forge Road) and Main Street, Loyalton, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
Edward Etzweiler (1875-1938), for a time, operated this store. A brief mention in the Elizabethville Echo of 1 October 1906, noted that Edward moved last week from Philadelphia “into the store property.”
It is not clear which member of the Helt family was Edward’s partner in the store, although he did marry Anna Susan Helt, daughter of Daniel D. Helt and Catharine [Snyder] Helt. In the 1900 census, Daniel was working as a farmer and by 1910, he was working as a wage earner in a planing mill. Anna had several brothers who were businessmen in the the Lykens Valley area.
The man standing on the porch is possibly Edward Etzweiler.
