A rare, but slightly damaged photograph of the 1910 baseball team of Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
In March 1910, there was formed an athletic association of the communities of Wiconisco and Lykens, for the purpose of supporting and promoting local baseball and football.
On 1 July 1910, the Lykens Standard reported the following:
The Athletic Association of Lykens and Wiconisco is making every effort to give this vicinity good baseball. For the past four years the game has been dead, consequently it takes time to get things going in the proper manner. This can only be done by a supporting and indulgent public. Give the boys a chance to find themselves. For the games on Saturday, 1 July [1910] and Monday, 4 July [1910], the boys will be helped by the old favorite Joe Biehl, his catcher Hartman, and the old Erie League player, Frank. The Association takes this opportunity to caution the crowds on the railway, as the P.R.R. is threatening to prosecute for trespass, and the Association will not be responsible for any cases arising out of this trespassing.
The photo is believed to be the team that was formed by the Athletic Association in 1910. It was found on a public tree on Ancestry.com, with only one person identified. That player is identified as William H. Beadle (1884-1957), back row, second from left, or #11 in the number key below.
If any readers of this blog can identify any others in the photo, it would be greatly appreciated.
