LYKENS BREWING COMPANY
There is no institution in the Lykens Valley that has done more to advertise this section by the general excellence of its product that the Lykens Brewing Company. The brewery was established in 1865 by Hieronymous Bueck and was purchased in 1895 by Louis Wentzler and C. W. Blumer, Mr. Blumer being succeeded by Fred Wentzler. The Wentzler Brothers have expended $60,000 in improvements the entire equipment being new, modern and up-to-date. Last fall the firm spent more than $10,000 in replacing the old wooden vessels with steel and glass and enameled vessels and other improvements. The capacity is now 10,000 barrels a year, and “Cream Top” beer, porter and ale is today on draught in all the leading bars in the Lykens and Williams Valleys, being noted for its purity, fine flavor and general excellence. The pure food commission has officially stated that “there is none purer in the State.” The brewing department is in charge of Charles Standenmayer, a brew master of wide practical experience. The firm has recently begun shipping through the valley and the business is rapidly increasing. Few citizens of Lykens are more popular or liberal than Lewis Wentzler and Frederick Wentzler. Beginning with the new license year, March 1st, the brewery will be conducted by Lewis Wentzler alone, his brother Fred having engaged in a similar business in Canada.
