From the Lykens Standard, September 7, 1906:
THE NEW LUTHERAN PIPE ORGAN
August Bauer, of the Barckhoff Church Organ Company, of Pomeroy, Ohio, completed the erection of the pipe organ in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on Monday of last week, which is considered one of the largest if not the largest and finest organ in this section. The instrument is of two manual and combination pedals, containing 896 speaking tubes. The design of case-work is in harmony with the architecture of the church, and is of oak, finished in oil; the display pipes richly ornamented in gold and colors; the wind chest perfectly made, with well apportioned valves and wind ways. They combine all recent improvements pertaining to organs, and so arranged as to make the touch as light and elastic as possible. The various key boards, registers, etc., is such as to give the greatest facility to the player, and in accordance with the most generally accepted standard; and every part throughout is constructed after the most approved methods, and in a thorough and durable manner from well-selected material. The voicing of the organ is of such character as to combine power with exceeding delicacy, richness and brilliancy of tone, with perfect blending quality throughout all the stops, and each stop is given its distinctive quality and quantity of tone, at the same time preserving the general balance of the “full organ,” the distinctive qualities of “flute,” “reeds,” and “string” toned stops carefully preserved, the diapason is full, rich pure organ tone and the balance between the foundation, chorus and mutation stops, are maintained throughout the instrument. The organ is very satisfactory in every way, and one which Zion Evangelical Lutheran congregation may well feel proud of. The price of the organ is $2,200.
