An undated photo post card entitled “Dumping Culm,” at Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Culm was the waste product from the mining operations in the anthracite region and for a long time, a huge culm bank existed north of the borough of Lykens. After mining ceased at Bear Gap, the material from the culm bank was used to make briquettes.
