A photograph of an 1885 sterling silver class ring from Lykens High School, Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The top of the ring shows a coal cart on rails, “Lykens High School” with blue-black enamel background, and “1885” with yellow enamel background. Inside the ring, which appears to be sized for a woman, are the initials “MMM” (shown in the photo below).
The first graduating class of Lykens High School was in 1885. According to a listing published on 23 May 1947 in the Lykens Standard, there were four graduates. The graduates were:
H. Amelia Durbin; Amelia Moyer; Irvin J. Long; Margaret Long.
None of the 1885 graduates appear to have the initials “MMM”.
Whose ring is this? Readers are asked to submit any information about this ring and its original owner.

Was the last name of Margaret “Young” vice “Long”?
A few other ring ownership possibilities:
– A teacher?
– Someone who graduated after the newspaper article was published?
– “MMM” are not the initials of the original owner, but of someone else who got the ring and had the initials engraved.
– “MMM” are not initials, but have some other meaning.
