An original receipt signed by Charles M. Coles, publisher of the Lykens Standard (newspaper), Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, to William Dietrich, for payment of $1.50 for a one year subscription to the newspaper. According to the receipt, payment included Volume 20, Number 35 to Volume 21, Number 35, to August 1919.
At the time, William E. Dietrich (1896-1977) and his wife Helen [Hoffman] Dietrich (1995-1977) and young daughter Kathryn E. Dietrich (1915-2003) were living in Harrisburg where he was working in the steel mills. The newspaper was delivered on a weekly basis by the U.S. mail. During the year of the subscription, son Harold W. Dietrich was born in February 1919.
After the death of Helen’s mother in July, 1919, William purchased her Specktown, Lykens Township property and established his family there. That property continued in the family and was thereafter known as the Riegle-Dietrich homestead. It was sold at auction in 1977.
