The Lykens Standard of June 19, 1925, referred to a Friday night robbery of the store of Phil Jones, Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, as “peculiar” because the thieves only took tobacco and didn’t touch any other articles, including candy.
PHIL JONES STORE ROBBED
The store of Phil Jones, located west of Borough Park was broken into last Friday night and robbed of a great quantity of cigars, cigarettes and tobacco. The peculiarity of this looting was that no candy or other articles were taken. As yet, no warrants have been made. Three different possible clues were investigated without yielding and[sic] substantial results. This crime is as yet baffling, but the bold criminals may feel uneasy. The State Police are on their tracks and they never let up until they “get their man.”
