This photograph was taken during the 1937-1938 school year of the pupils of the Kessler School in Erdman, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
The school was also known as the Erdman School and was the last-built of the Lykens Township one-room school houses. It was the only frame building of the schools in the township, all the rest being red brick. Originally painted white, it was only after it ceased being a school that a new owner painted it red. In this photo, not much of the original white paint is seen, most of it having washed or peeled off over the years exposing the bare, weathered wood siding.
