An undated photograph of an old-time traction engine, a steam operated machine that provided belt power for a threshing machine. Prior to the advent of the combine, which was a combination harvester and thresher, these traction engines were a common sight on farms. They were later replaced by gasoline powered tractors.
This photo was taken somewhere in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, but it is unknown where and who it belonged to. Likewise, the person pictured are not identified.
