The article described the reunion as follows:
Former pupils of Shepley’s School answered the call of the school bell for their annual reunion in the one-room school in Lykens Township, 18 August 1957.
The day’s program opened with the singing of “America”, and “Lending a Helping Hand”, followed by the Lord’s Prayer, salute to the Flag, Scripture reading by Charles Harris, and the Sunday School lesson, taught by Charles Willier.
The president then explained a list of twenty questions placed on the blackboard, which were answered by the former pupils.
Following the picnic basket dinner at noon, pictures of the group were taken by Toomey Photographers of Harrisburg.
The afternoon program included the following:
Songs, “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, and “Son of My Soul”, recitations by former pupils; readings, Ruth Stiely and Charles Harris; address, Mr. Arthur Deibler, a former teacher of the school; song, “America the Beautiful” and “Lending a Helping Hand”.
An old fashioned spelling bee, conducted by Charles Harris, and won by Arthur Deibler, closed the program.
The group also decided to hold their next reunion at the school in August 1958, the date for which will be chosen later.
