Only weeks after they took possession of the old Zerbe Hotel in Loyalton, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and began operating it as Snyder’s Hotel, the Clyde Snyder farm in Lykens Township was the scene of a fire that was a total loss.
The story was reported in the Elizabethville Echo, 30 June 1960:
Home Destroyed by Fire Saturday
Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the house on the Clyde Snyder farm about 2 1/2 miles northwest of Gratz, Saturday morning.
Gratz and Klingerstown fire companies responded to the call for aid and water was pumped from a stream nearby, to battle the flames.
The house and its furnishings are a complete loss. It was occupied at times by Mr. and Mrs. Snyder who also operate Snyder’s Hotel at Loyalton.
The barn and other buildings on the farm were not damaged.
