A photograph of the fourth and final built breaker at the Short Mountain Colliery of the Lykens Valley Coal Company, Bear Gap, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. It was completed in 1913 and served the colliery until it closed in the early 1930s.
The coal cars at the bottom are of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Coal was dumped at the top of the breaker from colliery cars and moved through a series of screens as it was freed of debris and sized for market.
Unidentified workers are seen on the lower platform near the Pennsylvania Railroad coal car and three other men are sitting on the bank at the lower left. Other figures can be seen in the upper right corner.
