A 1956 photograph of Mabel [Riegle] Evitts (1883-1964) and Walter Evitts (1884-1965) on the occasion of the celebration of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Both were born in Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and were next-door neighbors growing up there. Walter was a carpenter, and after marriage the couple moved to Philadelphia and then later to Lansdowne, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, where they were engaged in the contracting and landlord business, primarily in the purchase and renovation of large, old houses, which were converted into rental units. Mabel and Walter returned to the Riegle-Dietrich homestead on Specktown Road, at least once a month during their lives and visited their niece, Helen [Hoffman] Dietrich who had purchased the homestead about 1919 from Mabel’s mother (who was also Helen’s grandmother).
