An undated photograph of the covered bridge across the Mahantongo Creek north of the community of Paxton, Upper Paxton Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The bridge no longer exists. It was torn down in the Fall of 1933 following the completion of a steel span at this location in 1932.
The location of the covered bridge was at the junction of the Mahantongo Creek and the Susquehanna River, where Snyder Mill Road meets Route 147.
According to information in the Souvenir Book for the Bicentennial of Upper Paxton Township, 1767-1967:
It was located on the old Paxton to Dalmatia Road connecting Dauphin and Northumberland Counties. The north and south approachways and the center piers are standing today [1967], a credit to the stone masons of earlier days. The approachways and pier can be seen by turning west on Township Road 631 toward the Susquehanna river, just before crossing the present [1967] steel span over Mahantongo Creek on Route 147. This bridge was also of the Burr arch design, having two spans of a combined length of approximately 220 feet….
