GENE BENDIGO AND HELEN KESSLER WED
A very pretty wedding took place in St. Peter’s Reformed Church, Orwin, on Saturday evening at 7 o’clock, when Miss Helen Irene Kessler, Tower City, R. D., became the bride of Mr. Gene E. Bendigo of Orwin. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Louis King, the pastor, in the presence of a large number of friends of the couple. The church was beautifully decorated with baskets of peonies.
Miss Joanne Mylin, of Philadelphia, was the organist, and accompanied Ruth Hentz of Lebanon, who sang, “I Love Your Truly,” “Because” and the “Lord’s Prayer.” Floyd Miller of Orwin, played the wedding march.
The bride wore a street length dress of blue, with white accessories, a corsage and a headpiece of Talisman roses. The maid of honor was Miss Carol Bendigo, sister of the groom, while the groom had as as his best man, Paul Unger, brother of the bride. Dean Uhler, cousin of the groom, and William Unger, cousin of the bride, were the ushers. The maid of honor wore an aqua dress with gold accessories, and a corsage of red roses.
Following the marriage a reception was held at the home of the bride’s foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Kessler. The groom is a graduate of Porter Township High School, class of 1945, and the bride a member of the class of 1949. He served in the army 19 months and spent a year in Manilla, Philippine Islands. Since the death of his father, the late Lynn Bendigo, recently, he has been assisting his mother, Mrs. Viola Bendigo, in conducting their general store. They left Sunday on a honeymoon trip with stops in Ohio, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia.
