An undated portrait photograph of Melva Naomi Sitlinger, who was born in Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 23 February 1901, daughter of Samuel Jefferson Sitlinger (1871-1936) and Bertha Della [Riegle] Sitlinger (1879-1952).
Melva Sitlinger was Postmaster of Loyalton from 26 February 1940 through her retirement on 30 December 1963. The Post Office was located in the Harvey Snyder General Store on the southeast corner of Route 209 and the Crossroads. She eventually moved the post office to her home, which was just a few doors east of the general store.
Melva was the last person to hold the title and position of Postmaster of Loyalton, and was followed by her daughter Lucy who served Loyalton as a clerk operating out of the Lykens Post Office.
Melva died at the Lutheran Village in Millersburg in April 1985.
