A commemorative plate issued in 1971 on the occasion of the Millersburg Ferry becoming a Registered Historic Landmark. The face of the plate has a depiction of the ferry carrying two automobiles with Mount Patrick and the Susquehanna River. The bottom of the plate contains the following inscription:
THE MILLERSBURG FERRY 1971
The first known owner was David Kramer. He bought the ferry at a sheriff’s sale in 1825 for $60.00.
Up to the 1870’s the boats were poled across the river by man power. Then in the year 1873 the first paddlewheeler was constructed. It was the steamboat ENTERPRISE.
Steam was replaced by gasoline engines in the 20’s. At the same time the paddlewheels shifted from the side to the the stern where they are today. Incidently [sic] these paddlewheels actually work. There are no hidden screw propellors.
As of January 1971, the 145 year old Millersburg Ferry became a Registered Historic Landmark.
