An official No. 6 envelope or cover supplied to the Millersburg Post Office, Millersburg, Dauphin County, by the U. S. Post Office Department, for use by that post office for “Official Business.” The upper right corner of the envelope contains the words, “Penalty for Private Use to Avoid Payment of Postage $300.” This type of envelope was also referred to as a “penalty envelope.”
The post office in Millersburg applied the magenta, rubber-stamp town indication and the envelope was sent on its way with machine cancel, December 7, 1936, at 12 midnight.
