NEW WILLIAMS VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL OPENS
The new Williams Valley High School located along Route 209 west of Tower City opened its doors to students returning to studies after the Christmas and New Year holidays vacation period.
Supt. Ralph Lutz reported that the first use of the school building was accomplished with only a minimum of difficulties. Only some instances of bus transportation and serving at the new cafeteria ran counter to advance planning. These foul-ups, he said were minor and will be corrected.
Basically, all of the construction has been completed with only some work to be completed in the auditorium and in the industrial arts department.
The new building houses 960 junior and senior high students. It has a rated minimal capacity of 990 students, but this can be expanded to accommodate more with ease.
On the exterior, the driveways and parking areas are macadamed. The part that will be seeded or sodded has been rough graded and will be completed in early spring as soon as weather permits.
In addition to the regular classrooms, home economics and industrial departments, the new building has lecture rooms that may be converted from small to large, a greatly improved library facility, student activity and seminar rooms, an instrumental music room, an expanded guidance department, school board meeting room, conference room, and offices for the general staff and financial secretary.
The district office, which was originally located in the Porter–Tower school building and later the Williams Township elementary building, is now located in the new high school
The large gym can be divided into two gyms. There is also a remedial gym.
The industrial arts department has been expanded to include two shops, one for wood and plastic working and the other for power machines and metal working.
Supt. Lutz stated that the district plans to hold an open house when the public will be invited to inspect the new school building. A formal dedication will be presented at a later date.
