TOWNSHIP YOUTH DROWNING VICTIM
Paul Weaver, 16, of Jackson Township, drowned in the Susquehanna River, south of Liverpool on Sunday, while fishing with his father, Clarence Weaver, and two companions.
The victims and his two friends, Boyd Miller 21, and Miller’s borther Grant Miller 15, were fishing on the river, while the father of the drowned youth fished from the shore, nearby.
The three, attempting to wade ashore, were swept from their feet by the current. The Miller brothers were close together, and Boyd was able to tow his brother to shore. Miller then attempted to rescue Weaver, but becoming exhausted procured a boat and rowed out to where his companion had been, but could not find him.
Liverpool firemen and State Police, who had been summoned, joined in the search. After about an hour of grappling operations, Weaver’s body was recovered in deep water a short distance from where he was disappeared.
He was pronounced dead by Perry County Deputy Coroner Lee C. Morrisey of Duncannon.
The youth is survived by his parents, Clarence Weaver and Mary [Zimmerman] Weaver; two sisters and three brothers, Clara Weaver; Mary Ellen Weaver; John Weaver; Clarence Weaver; and James Weaver, all at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Leander Zimmerman; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Edwin Weaver, both of Halifax R.D.
Services will be held from Straw’s Church, Jackson Township at 10 o’clock this Thursday morning. Rev. Homer Hain will officiate and interment will be in the Enders Cemetery.
