Inspired Giving for an Inspired Cause
If you have attended any of the Pillow Historical Society events over the past few years you probably saw a donation jar with “Save the Steeple” inviting you to help financially with the cost of repairing a dangerously damaged steeple on the church that was once the Zion Lutheran Church built in 1885. This historic building is now the home of the Pillow Historical Society Museum.
After meeting with several local contractors who would not consider working on the steeple, we found “Inspired Heights”, a company that specializes in just this kind of work. The estimate for the repair came to $60,000. We are pleased to announce that the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission has awarded us $30,000, or half the cost. We need to come up with the matching funds. The Pillow Historical Society has about $12,000 to put toward the project. We have also secured pledges for an additional $9,000. We are still $9,000 short of our goal. I am asking you to consider making a donation to this project. Any amount will help. Your tax-deductible donation may be made in memory of a loved one or designated as a gift from an individual or a family. These donations will be registered in the official Pillow Historical Society Memorial Book.
This historic building was the place of worship for many families over the years. Its steeple defines the skyline of the town as it stands tall at the top of Union Street. The work has been scheduled to begin in the spring of 2018. Since there is also some leakage causing interior damage, the repair cannot be delayed.
Please consider sending a check or making a pledge to do so.This is a tax-deductible expense. Checks should be made out to Pillow Historical Society and sent to Pillow Historical Society, PO Box 193, Pillow PA, 17080. Pledges can be communicated to Sandra Lamenza at slamenza@comcast.net.
