DAUPHIN COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA — Police are investigating a case of ethnic intimidation [hate crime] in Elizabethville, Dauphin County.
State police say someone placed a two-foot tall cross in front of a home on the 200 block of Greenfield Estates in Washington Township last Thursday, then set it on fire.
The victim of this crime, Ashley Brooks, tells News 8 she is absolutely terrified.
She feels she’s being targeted because she is black living in a predominately white neighborhood.
She was not home when it happened, but luckily, her neighbors put out the flames.
I thank them because I could have lost everything,” said Brooks.
Brooks says she’s had similar issues: Her home has been broken into and her car window was shot out with a BB gun.
“People are just picking with me and I don’t know if it’s the color of my skin or what,” said Brooks, who considers the incident a hate crime. “They keep bothering me – it’s really scary.”
She is especially concerned because she has children at home.
Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact them.
