In a section of its newspaper reflecting on news of 35 years ago, the West Schuylkill Herald of April 23, 1937, told of the takeover of the Williams Valley Railroad by the Reading Railroad on April 16, 1902:
35 Years Ago — April 24, 1902
Tuesday, April 16, the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad Company took over the operations and management of the Williams Valley Railroad Company. A new board of directors was elected. They are: A. T. Dice, W. R. Taylor, George Zeigler, of the Reading Company; J. W. Durbin, Isaac Mossop, Edward Lebo, and C. M. Kaufman of the Williams Valley Company. The new officers are president, Theodore Vorhees; secretary, W. R. Taylor; assistant treasurer, R. Tull.
The Williams Valley operates between Brookside Junction and Lykens and is about 12 miles long. It was built by capital subscribed by the people of this valley. No dividends were ever paid to stockholders.
