FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. BATEMAN, 95, LYKENS VALLEY NATIVE
Mrs. Rebecca Bateman, age 95 years, widow of John J. Bateman, died at her home in Sunbury, Thursday morning [23 October 1941]. She had been in ill health the past year.
Mrs. Bateman, who was Sunbury’s oldest resident, was born in Mifflin Township, Dauphin County, 17 June 1846, daughter of the late Isaac Romberger and Lydia [Michael] Romberger. Her husband had operated a machine shop in Sunbury for many years, prior to his death in 1906. Mrs. Bateman was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sunbury.
Survivors are one son, Charles Bateman, with whom she resided; and two daughters, Mrs. Harry A. Eberhardt, of Philadelphia, and Mrs. David G. Slear, of Sunbury. Other survivors are ten grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; one brother, Philip Romberger, of Berrysburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Mydia Snyder, of Pillow; and Mrs. Harvey A. Lehman, of Elizabethville.
Funeral services were held from the Shipman Funeral Chapel in Sunbury at 2:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Interment was made in the Pomfret Manor Cemetery.
