MILLERSBURG LUTHERAN PASTOR DIED FRIDAY
Rev. Charles L. Mogel, age 51 years, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Millersburg, died in a Harrisburg Hospital, Friday.
The Rev. Mr. Mogel was a son of Jesse Mogel and Matilda [Carl] Mogel, and was a native of Markelsville. He attended Susquehanna University and was a graduate of Gettysburg College and the Gettysburg Theological Seminary. He also attended the Philadelphia Lutheran Seminary.
The Rev. Mr. Mogel served for ten years as pastor of the Springdale and Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church, Delaware County, before assuming the pastorate of the Millersburg Church. He was secretary of the Eastern Conference of the Eastern Pennsylvania Synod of the church from 1931 to 1933, and was also the conference treasurer fro 1934 to 1936. He was a member of the executive board of the Tressler Orphans’ Home, Loysville for five years, and had served as a trustee since 1935.
Rev. Mr. Mogel was the first president of the Lutheran Pastoral Association of Lykens Valley and Vicinity , and was a member of the Millersburg Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Jessie Mogel, and a sister, Mrs. Harold Lesh, of Newport.
Services were held at 7:30 o’clock Tuesday evening in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Millersburg. Rev. Joseph D. Krout, Harrisburg; Rev. Joseph Tice, pastor of the Killinger Lutheran Parish; and Rev. David Trauger, officiated.
Further services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church. Rev. Roland Banes, of Ferndale; Rev. Arthur Foellner and Rev. Mr. Trauger officiated and interment was made in the Upper Tinicum Church Cemetery.
