Services Held Wednesday for Rev. J. E. Scheetz Native of Township
Rev. Jacob Edwin Scheetz, 77, native of Upper Paxton Township, died early Monday morning at St. Paul’s Old Folks Home, Greenville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where he had been a guest for several years, following his retirement from the ministry, after 45 years of service.
Rev. Mr. Scheetz was the only son of the late Levi Scheetz and Catherine [Neagley] Scheetz, and was born near Killinger, 24 Devember 1873. He was graduated from F. & M. College, Lancaster, in 1897, and from the Lancaster Theological Seminary in May 1900.
In July 1900, he was ordained and installed as pastor of Grace Reformed Church, Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, where he served four years, and thereafter he served churches in Harrison City, New Kensington, Berlin, Pennsylvania; Brewster, Ohio, and Everette, Pennsylvania, where he was pastor for 21 years. He also later served as supply pastor at Hyndman, Everett and Bedford.
Rev. Mr. Sheetz was married to Miss Gertrude Richard, of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, 14 April 1904. She passed away some years ago. There are no immediate survivors.
Memorial services were held at the Home, Tuesday evening,and subsequent services were held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., in David’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, Killinger, Rev. Elden E. Ehrhart officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
