As far as we have been able to learn [in 1950], Rev. J. Edwin Scheetz is the only son of David’s Church to devote his life to full time Christian service.
Jacob Edwin Scheetz , only son of Levi Scheetz and Catherine [Neagley] Scheetz, was born in Killinger, R. D., Millersburg, Pennsylvania, December 24, 1873. He was baptized by Rev. J. W. Lescher in 1874, and confirmed by Rev. Tilgman Derr, April, 1888. He attended the township school and spent one hear at the high school, graduating in 1892. Spent one year at the Preparatory School of the Reformed Church at Myerstown. Was graduated from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in June 1897, and from the Lancaster Theological Seminary in May, 1900.
He was ordained July 5, 1900, and installed as pastor of Grace Reformed Church, Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, where he stayed for almost four years.
He served the Harrison City and Denmark Manor Charge, near Greensburg, Pennsylvania, for six years. Going from there to New Kensington, Pennsylvania, April 1, 1910. There he also was in charge of the German Department in the local high school until German was eliminated from the curriculum.
Because of ill health, he accepted a call to the delightful charge of Zion and Zion, near Berlin, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He went from Berlin to Brewster, Ohio, where he worked for a little more than one year, and in April 1, 1925, he accepted his last charge at Trinity Church, Everett, Pennsylvania. He remained in this charge for 21 years, counting one year supply.
April 14, 1904, Rev. Mr. Scheetz and Miss Gertrude Reichard, of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, were married.
Rev. Mr. Scheetz was a faithful servant in the Reformed Church for 46 years. Having no near kin, Rev. Mr. Scheetz is now [in 1950] making his home at St. Paul’s Old Folks Home, Greenville, Pennsylvania.
