Rev. James G. Reed came to Simeon Reformed Church in Gratz in August 1960, and served for about eight years. It was during his pastorate that the Evangelical and Reformed Church merged with the Congregational Christian Church to form the United Church of Christ.
On 10 October 1941, Rev. Reed and Eleanor L. Erdman of Shamokin were married. A daughter, Nancy Reed was born to them in 1944.
While Rev. Reed was pastor of Simeon Reformed Congregation, plans developed to merge the United Church of Christ with the Lutheran congregation in Gratz. In October 1969, Simeon Church became United Lutheran Church.
Rev. Reed retired from the ministry on 31 December 1979, and eventually moved to Florida.
