A brief article that appeared in the Lykens Standard of September 11, 1936, told of a boy from Rife, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, who had been a black-face performer with the Rose Brothers Tent Show and was now moving to the Tex Worthe Medicine Show.
RIFE BOY WITH WORTHE SHOW
Bobbie Snyder, of Rife, who had been with the Rose Brothers tent show, one of the largest dramatic and aerial shows in this part of the State, since May 10, has joined “Doc” G. Tex Worthe‘s medicine show, now located at Lebanon. Snyder is a magician, ventriloquist, black-face comedian and musician and formerly broadcast over WKOK, Sunbury.
“Doc” Worthe’s medicine show is well known in this section because of the Texas diamond-back rattle snakes handled by Worthe.
Black-face “entertainment” was infused into the culture of the Lykens Valley area. At this time, research is on-going into Bobby Snyder. as well as tent shows and medicine shows.
