Roy Zimmerman was born in Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, September 13, 1916, the son of Raymond Zimmerman, and Mary Ellen [Fisher] Zimmerman.
Roy’s career in baseball spanned from 1936 to 1951, with a few years off after World War II. Nearly all of his career was spent with minor league teams affiliated with the Chicago Cubs, the Cincinnati Reds, and the New York Yankees, primarily as a first baseman and outfielder. His fortune came at the end of World War II as former major league players returned from the war and were not yet ready to take their places on the big league fields. So, for one month in 1945, Roy Zimmerman played in the major leagues with the New York Giants.
His baseball stats are found at Baseball Reference.
A biographical sketch of him by Joanne Hulbert can be found at the Research Collection of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). The photo above is colorized from one that appears with that biography.
Roy died on November 22, 1991 in Pine Grove.
