Sarah Ellen [Keiper] Row was the youngest daughter of William Henry Keiper (1851-1913) and Susanna [Row] Keiper (1852-1933). She was born in Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 9 November 1889.
When her sister Minnie [Keiper] Blackway died in 1913 leaving three young boys, Aunt Sally stepped in to help raise the children. During her lifetime, she worked in the garment industry in and around Lykens, first as a seamstress, and eventually retiring as an inspector and supervisor in the hosiery mill. In 1935, she married J. Allen Row (1887-1943), the Tax Collector of Wiconisco Township, Dauphin County.
Early in life, Aunt Sally got her driver’s license and owned her own car. In retirement, she was known to provide transportation for friends, family and neighbors who had no other way of “getting around.” She is pictured here with her automobile in an undated photo taken at the Riegle-Dietrich homestead, owned by her nephew, William E. Dietrich (1896-1977) and his wife Helen [Hoffman] Dietrich (1895-1977) in Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County.
Sally Row died on 21 October 1976 at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg, Dauphin County. She is buried at Calvary United Methodist Cemetery, Wiconisco, Dauphin County.
