One of a series of undated color photo post card views of the Glen Burn Colliery, Shamokin, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
The text on the back of the card states:
GLEN BURN COLLIERY, SHAMOKIN, PENNSYLVANIA
Active Anthracite Coal Mine from 1836 to 1970. Formerly known as “The Gap” and “The Cameron.” Thirty-three million tons of hard coal were mined here. The Glen Burn’s two mile long refuse bank of 20 million tons is the world’s highest.
Note the railroad cars filled with coal.
