A photograph from the 1930s of a group of neighborhood boys, in Shamokin, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, who by the 1940s would all end up serving in the military. In front is Richard “Dick” Morgan, Shamokin, and the picture was taken by his sister in front of the garage of their family’s house on Orange Street behind Church Street. The two boys on the right behind Morgan, who were both killed in World War II, are Gordon Williams, center, and Anthony Dick. Back left is Bob Macalady, who would serve in the Marine Corps; he died on March 15 [2009]. Center left is Vernon Witmer.
