This panoramic view of the Short Mountain Colliery, Lykens Valley Coal Company, Bear Gap, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, was taken on 24 September 1921 from Big Lick Mountain, looking west, and shows the newly completed Lykens Power Plant in full operation (two chimneys, white smoke).
Rising on the right side is Short Mountain, and south, in the distance, Berry Mountain can faintly be seen.
Front and center in the picture is the area known as the Timber Bank, where supplies that came in by rail were stored until needed. The curved tracks at the left in the picture are of the Pennsylvania Railroad, and lead up to the breaker, where empty coal cars were loaded with sized coal ready to be shipped to market. The building to the left of the power plant is the pulverizing mill where the fuel was processed. Other buildings shown include tool sheds and offices.
