An undated plan for the construction of a mill, believed to be drawn by Simon Sallada (1785-1854), a millwright, and early settler of the Lykens Valley. According to information found in the Elizabethville Sesquicentennial Book, published in 1967:
[Simon] was a millwright by trade and acquired much of his proficiency in that vocation from an apprenticeship with Jacob Berkstresser of Bellefonte, [Centre County], Pennsylvania. Many of the old mills within forty miles of Simon’s home were of his designing, and in fact the workmanship of his hand.
This piece of paper ephemera was found in an 1819 Bible purchased on eBay by Roy W. Schreffler, which has since been been identified as most likely belonging to Simon Sallada.
For a further description of this plan, see the 21 minute video by Schreffler on YouTube, and advance to about 3:07 [minutes, seconds]. The image above is a screen capture from the video.
