A photograph taken in 1949 at a reunion of Spanish-American War veterans, held in Pine Grove or Tremont, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
The following caption was provided:
VETERANS REUNION IN ’49 — Company G Fourth Volunteer Infantry who served in the Spanish-American War, held a reunion in September of 1949, at which time this photograph was taken.
The veterans, seated, left to right: Frank Kreichbaum; Ray Leonhard; Harry Leonhard; William Yoder; George Emerich.
Standing, left to right: George Stine; Charles Frye; William S. Heiser; George W. C. Kline; George Frye; Harry Moyer.
Of this group, George Frye, who will be 96 years old on George Washington‘s birthday, is the only survivor.
Spanish-American War veterans always took great pride in the fact that theirs was the only army made up entirely of volunteers the world has ever known. It was also the first foreign war in which the United States engaged.
Mrs. George Stine permitted the Press Herald to use this picture.
The photo was published in the November 11, 1971 edition of the Pine Grove Press Herald in its “Down Memory Lane” feature.
