The aerial view of the William Dietrich and Helen [Hoffman] Dietrich farm and homestead on 1 May 1965, by Aerial Surveys of Berwick, Pennsylvania, shows both the “Old Specktown Road” and the “New Specktown Road” – the wider new road is at left and the narrower old road is at right. The smokehouse and main barn can be seen to the right of the old road. The triangular piece of property between the roads was mostly part of the Dietrich farm, but a small point at which the old and new road joined belonged to the Calvin L. Engle family who owned the old Evitts homestead located just below the large tree at the bottom of the picture.
The view above, taken in the 1960s and looking east toward Gratz, shows how the dangerous s-curve was removed with the construction of the new road. The Dietrich vegetable and flower garden was located on the triangle.
