An undated photo card view of a group of three residents of Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, standing in front of a mine shaft entrance, probably somewhere on Short Mountain. Two of the individuals in this picture have not been identified. It is believed that those pictured are from the extended Riegle and Evitts families. Other photographs posted here previously of those families may help in the identification of the unknown persons.
The woman on the left has been identified by some to be Beulah Evitts.
The location of the mine shaft has not yet been determined, but it is possible that it is the beginning of the tunnel designed to connect with a mine level of the operation at Bear Gap, thus easing access from the north side of the mountain. After many years of work, the project to complete the tunnel was abandoned.
