Stanley Anthony Coveleski was born in Shamokin, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania on July 13, 1889.
His birth name was Stanislaus Kowalewski. His name is also found spelled Koveleski and Kovaleski.
His major league baseball career began with a few games as a pitcher with the Philadelphia Athletics of the American League in 1912. After nearly four years he returned to baseball with the Cleveland Indians of the American League in 1916, where he spent most of this career until moving to the Washington Senators of the American League, in 1925 for three seasons and finally spent his last year with the New York Yankees in 1928.
Stanley Anthony Covelski was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown, New York, in July 1969, along with fellow stars Roy Campanella, Stan Musial, and Waite Hoyt.
