A 1925 map showing the location of the State Normal Schools of Pennsylvania. These normal schools were the primary teacher education and training institutions of the state. While there were no normal schools in Dauphin County, Schuylkill County, or Northumberland County, there were at least four such schools withing a reasonable distance from the Lykens Valley area that accepted and graduated teachers. Those schools were Shippensburg, Millersville, Kutztown, and Bloomsburg. In addition, Lykens Valley area students attended West Chester and Lock Haven in decent numbers.
The map appeared in the Pennsylvania School Journal, November 1925, published by the Pennsylvania State Education Association.
