A 2009 photograph, looking east, of the former Pennsylvania Railroad Station at Strafford, Pennsylvania, on the Main Line from Harrisburg to Philadelphia. This was the station that Lykens Valley residents traveled through on the way to the “big city” of Philadelphia. Today, the station retains its English-Tudor look with added modern accouterments such as ramps and a small elevated platform section for wheelchair patrons. The station is part of the Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) Regional Rail system. Passing through this station daily, but not stopping, are Amtrak direct trains east to New York City and west to Pittsburgh. SEPTA connections are available to Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station via Amtrak to Washington, D. C. and points south. The station sign bears the “R5” route depiction, no longer in use.
