GRATZ FAIR STUNT DRIVER HURT AS SAFETY BELT FAILS
A safety belt which was not so safe after all proved the undoing of John Filipick, 27, stunt man for Ward Beam’s Daredevils, performing at the Gratz Fair at Gratz, Wednesday night.
Filipick, driving a stunt car, was clearing the top of a bus with almost the greatest of ease when his safety belt broke. His car landed successfully atop a group of other cars — where it was supposed to land — but the driver was thrown against the windshield.
Rushed to the Polyclnic Hospital, Harrisburg, by John Halderman, a fellow performer, amid a police escort. Filipick was treated for lacerations of the lip, chin and nose, bruises of the face and an injury to his right arm. He was detained for observation.
