From the Lykens Standard, May 15, 1936:
GUN ENDS LIFE OF YOUNG MOTHER
According to Deputy Coroner George W. Wren, of Williamstown, Mrs. Goldie Marie Myers, residing for the past two months with her mother, Mrs. Harvey Strawhecker, two miles east of Elizabethville, came to her death by a self-inflicted shot gun wound in the head.
Circumstances surrounding the case according to a relative residing in Elizabethville, Mrs. Strawhecker, mother of the dead girl, her husband, William Myers, and her brother Barney Strawhecker, were on the first floor of the Strawhecker home, Mrs. Myers was on the second floor presumably for the purpose of preparing her family’s belongings for moving to Allentown where Mr. Myers it is said had secured employment.
A dull thud was heard by those on the first floor and upon investigation the liveless body of the young mother was found. Dr. C. J. Kleinguenther, of Elizabethville, was summoned by the family and upon his arrival pronounced the girl dead. He summoned for investigation Coroner Wren, of Williamstown. No motive for the act was advanced except that for some time Mrs. Myers was in ill health.
Beside her husband and one daughter, Joan Myers, 2, her mother with whom she resided, she is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Miss Anna Strawhecker at home; Mrs. William Wolf, Williamstown; Elmer Strawhecker, Deitrich; Barney Strawhecker and Francis Strawhecker; Joel Strawhecker, Dayton; Boyd Strawhecker, Trevorton; and Roy Strawhecker, Allentown.
