These two photographs are believed to have been taken in the early summer of 1948 at the Riegle-Dietrich Homestead on Specktown Road, Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Grandchildren of William E. Dietrich and Helen [Hoffman] Dietrich are shown. In background is one farm building that was destroyed when the new Specktown Road was constructed through the property. In addition, much of the grassy area and the tree pictured at left was also destroyed.
Uncle Harold Dietrich is pictured here at about the same spot. Just to the right and out of the picture was a fruit tree orchard that was almost completely destroyed when the new road was cut through, leaving only two cherry trees and one apple tree to supply the farm. The trees that were cut down included pear, peach, plum and several varieties of apple.
