An undated photograph of the old synagogue at Shenandoah, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. The photograph is believed to have been taken some time in the early 100s. The children and adults are not identified by name, but the photo caption identifies them as a Sunday School Class.
There were no established synagogues in the Lykens Valley area. Shenandoah is located about 10 miles north and east of Tremont, and was one of the places members of the Jewish faith could go to practice their faith. There were also synagogues in Harrisburg in Dauphin County, Pottsville in Schuylkill County, and Shamokin in Northumberland County.
